Kitgum government primary schools directed to recruit security guards

All government primary schools in Kitgum district have been directed to recruit security guards to ensure the safety of school properties, teachers and learners.

The directive was made by the Kitgum District Education Officer, Mr. Anthony Lawot Lam, during a head teachers’ planning meeting held at Kitgum District Council Hall ahead of the opening of Academic Term III on Monday.

Mr. Lawot said many school properties are going missing because some schools do not have security guards to oversee the premises and protect school property.

He said security guards play an important role in preventing theft, ensuring the safety of teachers and learners, protecting school property and maintaining cleanliness around the school premises.

Mr. Lawot also urged head teachers and teachers to respect School Management Committees, saying the committees represent the trust placed in them by the community regardless of their academic qualifications.

Meanwhile, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Ebil Jimmy Ssegawa, said the safety of every institution depends on proper security arrangements.

Mr. Ebil also urged schools to consider installing lightning arresters on school buildings to protect learners and school property from lightning strikes.
