An abandoned house in Hilltop Cell, formerly used as the NURI office in Kitgum Municipality, has been raided by thieves who reportedly cut and stole about 45 kilograms of copper wire.

According to the Head of Security for Hilltop Cell in Pandwong Division, Kitgum Municipality, Mr. Okot Denis, the thieves have been entering the abandoned house at night, cutting the copper wire and selling it at approximately UGX 25,000 per kilogram.

Mr. Denis said the thieves also raided the ongoing construction site of Tito Okello in Hilltop Cell. He explained that the LC1 raised an alarm at night, prompting neighbours and the head of security to launch an operation at around midnight.

Mr. Denis warned property owners against leaving buildings vacant and unrented, saying abandoned buildings can contribute to insecurity in the area.

He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security authorities.

The LC1 Chairperson for Hilltop Cell, Mr. Okot Alex, said the case has been registered at Kitgum Central Police Station (CPS) under reference SD REF 22/02/10/2026.

Mr. Okot Alex appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately inform security authorities of any suspected criminal activity or emergency so that appropriate action can be taken.
