Amuru District Council has approved a significantly increased budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, signaling a boost in service delivery and development priorities.
The budget, passed on Monday during the 24th District Council meeting, stands at 34 billion shillings—up from 28.7 billion shillings in the previous financial year. District leaders say the increase reflects improved planning, stronger fiscal discipline, and a focus on critical sectors.
Local revenue collections are also projected to rise from about 604 million to nearly 697 million shillings, with authorities set to use the Integrated Revenue Administration System to enhance transparency and efficiency.
Key priority areas in the new budget include education, health, road infrastructure, water and environment, production, and trade. Officials say these investments aim to improve access to essential services, strengthen infrastructure, and support livelihoods across the district.
Amuru Resident District Commissioner Osborn Oceng Geoffrey commended council members and technical staff for their commitment, noting that implementation will emphasize accountability, value for money, and effective use of resources.
