The Mayor of Kitgum Municipality, His Worship Okwera Richard Ojara, has dismissed reports circulating within the district alleging that PTA payments and parents’ contributions in government-aided schools have been abolished or significantly reduced.
According to the Mayor, information reaching his office indicates that some newly sworn-in political leaders have been moving around during funerals and other public gatherings claiming that PTA payments in municipal and other schools in the district have either been scrapped or reduced to only UGX 10,400 starting Term II of 2026.
Okwera described the claims as misleading and lacking any legal basis, arguing that such pronouncements have no authority under the laws governing local governments and Uganda’s education sector.
He further called upon headteachers of government-aided primary schools, as well as chairpersons of School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) within Kitgum Municipality, to disregard the statements.
The Mayor emphasised that quality education in Kitgum Municipality and the wider district requires adequate support and resources to ensure smooth school operations.
He noted that sustaining quality education at all levels comes at a cost, and urged stakeholders to remain focused on improving learning standards rather than spreading misinformation.
