Bishop Kitara Challenges Acholi Leaders to Implement Resolutions in Honour of Lokech

Kitgum Diocese Bishop Wilson Kitara has challenged Acholi district leaders and Members of Parliament to revisit and implement resolutions reached during the 2021 joint Acholi council sitting, saying this would help strengthen unity and preserve the legacy of the late Lt Gen Paul Lokech.

Bishop Kitara made the call on Friday, August 21, 2026, while delivering the sermon at the fourth memorial service for Lt Gen Lokech in Lubele South Village, Pader Town Council, under the theme, “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Stability and Peace.”

He said the responsibility for memorialising Lokech should not be left entirely to his family, describing this as a heavy burden. He urged Acholi local governments and MPs to take up their responsibility and ensure the 2021 resolutions are implemented.

Bishop Kitara said unity, stability and peace are essential for achieving these goals, urging local councils to spread values that can produce more leaders like Lokech in Acholi and Uganda.

He described Lokech as a courageous and patriotic son of Acholi, urging people to accept that although he is gone, his legacy lives on.

Kitara called on the public to emulate Lokech’s values of unity, family, duty, integrity, patriotism, love and Godliness, while decrying selfishness and other practices undermining harmony in society.

Pader District Chairperson Alfred Akena, who also chairs the Acholi District Chairpersons’ forum, said leaders will review the 2021 resolutions, identify gaps and work towards their implementation. He, however, appealed for patience and understanding.
