A cholera outbreak has been confirmed in Lamwo district, and health officials have revealed that twenty-seven people were receiving treatment at Agoro Health Centre III by Friday morning.

According to Dr Omoya Denish Ochula, the Lamwo District Health Officer, one person has succumbed to the disease, and two others have so far been discharged after showing improvement, bringing the total number of registered cases to 30.

Dr Ochula, however, called for calm, noting that cholera is easy to prevent and treat. He urged locals to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation, avoid eating cold food, drink boiled water, and always make proper use of latrines to prevent and manage the disease.

Cholera is a bacterial disease spread through contaminated water and food. It can cause severe diarrhoea, dehydration, and even death if left untreated.

According to the World Health Organisation, most people who contract cholera have mild symptoms or none at all. About 1 in 10 people develop severe symptoms such as watery diarrhoea, vomiting, and leg cramps. Rapid loss of body fluids can lead to dehydration and shock.
