The Kitgum Pool Association is set to launch the Women’s Pool Championship at King Comfort on 31 May 2026, with several clubs expected to participate in the competition.
According to the Director of Maicamo Pool Association, Mr Oling Bosco, the launch of the Women’s Pool Championship marks a significant milestone in promoting women’s participation in pool in Kitgum District.
Mr Bosco said that for many years, men have dominated pool competitions in the district, while organising competitions for women remained challenging due to limited time, inadequate resources and insufficient financial support from club owners.
He noted that despite these challenges, organisers are now prepared to hold regular women’s competitions and provide opportunities for female players to showcase their talent and skills.
He called upon clubs interested in participating to register before the official launch on 31 May, adding that several clubs have already signed up for the championship.
The Chairperson of Women’s Pool in Kitgum, Ms Auma Scovia Trace, said involving women in pool championships will create opportunities for them to actively participate in competitions, showcase their talents and realise their full potential in the sport.
She added that clubs wishing to join the championship will be required to pay a registration fee of Shs100,000 and appealed to more clubs to register.
The clubs already registered for the 2026 Women’s Pool Championship include Zone Pub Pool Club, Sniper Pool Club and King Comfort Pool Club. The championship has received support from former Chua East Member of Parliament Hon. Lamwaka, Manager Odwar, and Kitgum Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Denis Onekalit Amere.
