Police in Kitgum district have launched investigations into an alleged theft of Shs199 million from three Tanzanian nationals at Little Palace Hotel in Quarters, Pandwong division, Kitgum Municipality.
The theft allegedly happened last week when the Tanzanians attached to Nile 5 Company Limited based in Kampala returned to their rooms and found their moneys missing. They had booked rooms at the hotel and would move to sub counties to by sim sim.
On the fateful day, after being asked by the hotel staff to pay for their rooms, the trio alleged that they found their money missing and lodged a complaint to management and later alerted police.
Kitgum District Police Commander, ASP Manshur Suwed confirmed receiving complaints from the three Tanzanians and registered the case.
Suwed said the case was registered at Kitgum Central Police Station under reference number URB 57/2023. He said they held the manager, Mr. Robert Opiyo and the receptionist, Ms. Peace Aber to record statements and were later released on police bong as investigations continue.
He however wonders how someone would keep up to Shs199 million in a hotel room reasoning that such an amount should have been in the bank.
Robert Opiyo the Manager of Little Palace Hotel however rubbished the allegation describing it as baseless. He says neither him nor his staff had a hand in the alleged disappearance of the 199 million shillings
