A 77-year-old woman in Labongo Layamo sub-county in Kitgum district is living happily and saving money by using biogas energy for cooking.
Ms. Mary Atube, a resident of Pagen in Labongo Layamo sub-county Kitgum district, revealed that she was trained by Caritas, an NGO operating in the district. She says with the skills she got, her cooking has become easier, faster, more convenient and cheaper compared to charcoal.
Ms Atube says the use of biogas for domestic energy needs has reduced the number of trees she destroys and this, she adds, is helping conserve the environment.
She revealed that she used to spend shs 100,000 every month to buy charcoal but now her problem is solved. She appeals to the government to empower the community with knowledge in order to save the environment.
