In a bid to ensure the safety of learners from food poisoning and other diseases, Pager Division Lower Local Government in Kitgum municipality has urged school Authorities in the Division to examine Food Handlers.
Mr. Julius Owona, the Town Agent Pager Division noted during the budget conference for the financial year 2025/2026 on Monday that some schools are reluctant to institute measures to safeguard learners from unsafe food supplied by food handlers. He added that diseases can spread very fast especially when there is poor hygiene among the food handlers.
He however noted that some food handlers have complained that putting stringent measures in place will make the business environment hostile for them. He tasked the health inspector to carryout routine inspection of the food handlers and continue enforcing existing laws.
He also appealed to the school Authorities to carry out quarterly health inspection or Hygiene promotion campaigns to sensitize the community on best hygiene practices to avoid disease outbreaks.
