Members of Parliament from the Acholi Sub-region in the 12th Parliament are set to hold their first meeting on Thursday, 11 June 2026, to formally reconstitute the Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG).

Agago County MP, Hon. Edward Otto Makmot, confirmed that legislators agreed to use the day Parliament convenes for the national budget speech at Kololo to undertake the formalisation process and officially relaunch the regional caucus.

The meeting is expected to lay the foundation for the group’s activities in the new Parliament, with discussions already generating interest in key leadership positions. Former APG Chairperson Hon. Anthony Akol is among the names being mentioned for a possible return to lead the caucus. He previously chaired the group during the 11th Parliament.

Stakeholders across the Acholi Sub-region will be closely watching the developments as both newly elected and returning MPs seek to rebuild unity within the caucus. During the 11th Parliament, the APG experienced internal divisions despite several attempts to reconcile differing political views among its members.

The Acholi Parliamentary Group comprises 28 Members of Parliament representing the Acholi Sub-region and serves as a platform for promoting the region’s common interests and development priorities at national level.
