Three killed in suspected arson attack in Kitgum district

Three people have been confirmed dead following a suspected arson attack in Bajere South Village, Labongo Akwang Sub county, Kitgum District.

The deceased are Odida Michael, the head of the household, his wife Oyella Alice, and their eight-month-old child, whose name is yet to be confirmed.

The Kitgum Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Jimmy Ebil Ssegawa, said the tragic incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on Friday, when the family’s house caught fire under circumstances believed to be criminal.

Mr Ssegawa described the incident as unfortunate and condemned the act in the strongest terms.

He added that scene-of-crime officers were already on site at the time of reporting, as investigations continue, amid reports that more than 1,000 residents had gathered at the scene.

The RDC urged the public to remain calm, avoid tampering with the site, and cooperate with police by providing any information that may help determine the cause of the fire.

He assured residents that justice will be served.
