President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, wo doubles as the Kitgum district woman member of parliament, Dr Lillian Aber, for proving that being disadvantaged at birth is not a disability.
Born and raised in Kony Paco, a slum in Kitgum town, Aber was raised from a humble background and faced hardships, in acquiring education and other basic needs as a child.
According to her, it was a reverend who offered her a scholarship to attain her secondary education when she has almost given up.
The President made the remarks on Saturday as the Chief Guest of Aber’s homecoming and thanksgiving ceremony held at Kitgum District Farm Institute. He asked Ugandans to work hard and trust God wherever they are. Museveni also re-emphasized his call for free education in all government schools.
He said a number of children drop out of school due to some education stakeholders who insist on charging fees from children of poor Ugandans.
