Kitgum municipality to connect over 100 solar street lights

Kitgum municipality is set to install 105 more solar street lights in the three divisions of Central, Pandwong and Pager, to enhance security and beautify the town, particularly at night.

Kitgum Municipal Engineer, Eng. Alexis Abonga revealed that the installation will target dark spots left out in previous phases.

He added that part of the unspent funds ( Ushs 80 million) from the construction of Omony Ogaba and Lagoro roads by China Railway 7, already paid to the contractor, will be used for this project.

Among the selected streets, Bwonagweno road will get 10 lights, Lokolomoi Road 7, Hilltop Road 4, Awich Road 6 double-arm, Kitgum-Gulu Highway 18, Monbunyu 5, Conner Alango Junction double-arm, Pager Bridge Road 6 lights, Roundabout Mission 6, among other roads.

Eng. Abonga mentioned that the installation would be complete within two weeks as most of the procurement work is done, with only the delivery of materials pending.

Mr. Kidega Patrick Paul, the Deputy Mayor Kitgum Municipal Council, added that the street lights have been evenly distributed across the divisions, with each receiving 36 solar-powered street lights.
