Mob lynches suspected chicken thief in Padibe

An angry mob lynched a suspected chicken thief on Tuesday in Doglukutu East village, Kuluyee ward, Padibe town council, Lamwo district. The deceased has been identified as Onek Samuel, aged 32, also a resident of Doglukutu East village, Kuluyee ward.

A case of murder by mob action was reported at around midnight on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, at Padibe Police Station by Obedi James, aged 33, who also resides in the same area.

According to an incident report compiled by the territorial police in Lamwo district, the deceased allegedly stole two chickens belonging to Mr. Opira Kenneth and Ms. Akello Cavine, the deceased’s wife.

The wife informed the deceased’s brothers, who mobilised and began beating him at his home until he lost consciousness. He later died from the wounds he sustained during the assault, and one of the prime suspects, Mr. Obedi, reported the matter to Padibe Police Station.

According to the police, four suspects have been arrested to assist with the investigation: Obedi James, 33, a stepbrother of the deceased, and Oola Bajero, Omot Richard, and Okeny Robinson, all residents of the same area.

IP Oloya Joe, the Acting Police Spokesperson for the Aswa East Region, stated that some suspects are still at large and warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.

He urged those on the run to surrender, as they cannot evade justice forever. By the time of publication, the body of the deceased was still in the mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
