CER calls for annual thanksgiving prayer to be recognized on Uganda calendar

The Chosen Evangelical Revival Churches of Uganda (CER) has appealed to the Government to recognize its annual thanksgiving prayer and include it on Uganda’s official calendar.

The call was made by Reverend Ken Odongkara, the CER Kitgum Chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee, during a press briefing held at Acaki Lodge in Kitgum to launch preparations for the ordination of Archbishop Robert Ocan Tubamoi.

Rev. Odongkara said CER has played a significant role in promoting peace and stability among Christians, while helping many people turn away from wrongdoing and receive salvation.

He noted that the church is celebrating 79 years since its establishment in 1945, saying the thanksgiving prayer has been an important part of the church’s history.

Rev. Odongkara also recalled the difficult period during the Lakwena insurgency, when some CER members were killed while others suffered persecution, but the church managed to survive.

He cited the late Yusuf Otunu as among the early individuals who received salvation through the church, describing such sacrifices as an important part of CER’s history.

The church is now calling on the Government to officially recognize its annual thanksgiving prayer as part of the national calendar.
