Kitgum District Forest Officer Lectures Farmers on Climate Adaptation Management

Kitgum District Forest Officer, Mr. Martin Anywar, has urged farmers to adopt climate-smart farming practices to reduce the effects of climate change on agriculture.

Speaking during a farmers’ sensitization meeting with Mar Lonyo Farmer Group in Labongo Akwang Sub-county, Kitgum District, Mr. Anywar educated farmers on climate change adaptation, the challenges caused by changing weather patterns, and practical ways to improve resilience.

He advised farmers to use quality seeds, begin land preparation and planting early to match the rainy season, regularly consult agricultural extension workers for weather and farming advice, and adopt improved farming practices to increase productivity.

Members of the Mar Lonyo Farmer Group also shared their experiences on how climate change has affected their farming activities and discussed different strategies they are using to adapt to the changing climate.

The meeting emphasized the importance of climate adaptation in ensuring food security and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
