OPM donates relief items to families affected with nodding syndrome

The Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday, November 2024 delivered a consignment of relief items to support families affected by the nodding syndrome in Kitgum district.

The relief items include 10 tons of maize flour, 5 tons of beans, 133kgs of salt, 15kgs of Rice, 50kgs of sugar, 3000 bars of soap, 733 rolls of toilet paper, plastic cups, plastic buckets, and mosquito nets among others

Ms. Pamela Adokorach the Kitgum district Principal Assistant Secretary said relief items that were brought to the district through the office of the State Minister for Relief and Disaster Preparedness will be distributed to the families affected by nodding syndrome in the subcounties of Labongo Akwang, Labongo Amida West and Kitgum Matidi.

She added that the disaster management committee will sit on Friday 22nd November 2024 to agree on the procedure and the methods of distribution.

Hon. Frank Kidega, the Kitgum district Secretary for Works and Technical Services who represented the district chairperson appealed to the local leaders to ensure the relief items reach the beneficiaries and warned them against being tempted to divert the items.

Haji Waliri Marijan the Kitgum Deputy Resident District Commissioner asked the subcounty chiefs to be vigilant during distribution so that the families affected by nodding syndrome don’t miss out.

Kitgum district has 531 nodding syndrome patients concentrated in Labongo Amida West, Kitgum Matidi, and Labongo Akwang subcounties.
