More than 60 National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates from Kitgum district are today attending President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
The delegates include members from Kitgum district and special party organs, excluding individuals who contested as independents during the 2026 general elections.
According to Kitgum District NRM Chairperson Emmanuel Lapyem, the delegates had already entered Kololo to join other party members from across the country following the accreditation exercise conducted yesterday in Nakawa.
Lapyem noted that the district had initially planned to send 70 delegates, but some members were left out after contesting independently in the previous elections.
He mentioned prominent figures including Onge Merino Lolo, who contested for Kitgum Municipality mayoral seat, and Catherine from Omiya Anyima, who reportedly supported independent candidates.
He further revealed that during an NRM chairpersons’ meeting held in Kampala ahead of the swearing-in, leaders presented several concerns to President Museveni for consideration. These include increased funding for education, enhancement of capitation grants, expansion of rural electrification, and improvement of party welfare.
Lapyem called upon NRM supporters and residents in Kitgum district to join the party leadership at the NRM district headquarters, where the swearing-in ceremony will be streamed live and meals provided to attendees
