kTI Selected to Train Learners in Nuclear Energy

Kitgum Technical Institute (KTI) has been selected by the Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, to train learners in nuclear energy.

The development was revealed by the Principal of Kitgum Technical Institute, Mr. Kidega Aldo, during a meeting with KTI alumni at the institute  headquarters following the handover of a donated 3D light signage to the institution.

Mr. Kidega Aldo said the nuclear energy training programme will commence once the necessary arrangements are completed and the required equipment installed.

He explained that pre-training of instructors will first be conducted to equip them with the necessary skills before they begin training learners. He also called upon people who have already acquired certificates in nuclear energy to be ready to support the programme when required.

Mr. Aldo said the development of KTI cannot be achieved by the principal alone, but requires the collective effort of the institution, alumni and other stakeholders.

The Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Ebil Jimmy Ssegawa, welcomed the selection of KTI as a centre for nuclear energy training, saying the facility will serve learners from across the Acholi sub-region and eastern Acholi.

Ebil encouraged parents who undermine technical education to instead support their children to enroll in technical institutions, saying they provide practical skills that can improve young people’s chances of securing employment.

He pledged that his office will work closely with KTI management to support the development of the institution and strengthen facilities for nuclear energy training.
