Over 12,000 Expected to Attend CER Archbishop’s Ordination in Kitgum

More than 12,000 people are expected to attend the ordination and consecration of the second Archbishop of the Chosen Evangelical Revival Church (CER), Rt. Bishop Ochan Robert Tubamoi, scheduled for September 29, 2026, at the CER church premises in Kitgum District.

Dr. Odongo Moses is expected to officiate at the ordination and consecration ceremony.

Speaking during the official launch of the event, Rev. Ken Odongkara, the CER disciplinary Chairperson, said the ordination will be the second in the history of the church since its establishment.

Rev. Odongkara called upon Christians from different denominations to turn up in large numbers to witness the historic event, which will also include the annual thanksgiving prayers.

The Chairperson of the Central Organising Committee, Mr. Ojara Wilfred, said CER now has a presence in all districts of Uganda, with more than 118 churches divided into Eastern and Western dioceses.

He said President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief guest, noting that an official invitation letter has already been sent to him. Other invited guests are also expected to attend the ceremony.

The Archbishop-elect, Rt. Bishop Ochan Robert Tubamoi, said that after CER registered with the government to operate independently, the church committed itself to contributing to national development through the construction of schools and hospitals, as well as promoting agriculture.

He said CER has so far constructed seven schools in Kitgum District, five in Pader District and one in Kalongo, Agago District. He added that one of the schools in Kitgum Balakwa has since been taken over by the government.

Rt. Bishop Ochan called upon government leaders to treat all churches equally and ensure that religious institutions have access to government development programmes.

The Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Ebil Jimmy Ssegawa, urged churches and religious leaders to play a greater role in strengthening families and building the faith of Christians.

He also expressed concern over the rising number of youth gangs in Kitgum District and called on religious leaders to preach peace, positive mindsets and responsible behaviour, while encouraging parents to provide proper guidance to their children.

The ordination and consecration ceremony, together with the annual thanksgiving prayers, is expected to cost approximately UGX 308 million, according to the event budget.
