The Kitgum District Ball Games II officially commenced with the vetting of participants on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, ahead of the competitive events scheduled to begin on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
The three-day sporting event has attracted 22 secondary schools from both Kitgum District and Kitgum Municipality. Among the participating institutions is Horizon Secondary School, a new school with only 10 students, which has requested permission for its learners to attend and watch the games.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Mr. Richard Oringa, the USSSA chairperson overseeing the organization of the games, said only students aged 20 years and below will be eligible to participate in the competitions.
The games will feature a variety of disciplines, including dance sport, handball, ludo, scrabble, volleyball, netball, kho-kho, rugby, and athletics.
Mr. Oringa said most of the competitions will be hosted at Boma Grounds in Kitgum. Spectators who are not students will be required to pay an entrance fee of UGX 1,000, while students in school uniform will pay UGX 500.
He urged headteachers to emphasize discipline among learners throughout the tournament and called upon local leaders at the sub-county level to support schools during the three-day event.
Meanwhile, Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Geoffrey Oguti said schools have been advised to sensitize learners on proper conduct and personal safety. He also urged school administrators to remain vigilant against individuals who may attempt to disrupt the games.
Mr. Oguti called on all participants to demonstrate discipline, respect, and decent behavior to ensure the success of the tournament.
