Authorities in Agago District have expressed concern over rising cases of internal livestock theft, despite improvements in local security.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Agago, Susan Akot Moro, said the district is currently experiencing relative peace compared with previous years, following a reduction in cattle raids from Karamoja.
However, she revealed that some residents have resorted to livestock theft, disguising themselves as Karimojong rustlers, while others are reportedly collaborating with the raiders.
Ms Moro also attributed the problem to poor livestock management, noting that many farmers allow their animals to roam freely, making them easy targets for thieves.
She urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information to enable a swift response to any incidents.
The Deputy RDC further commended government efforts in opening security roads, which have improved patrol operations, although she noted that some areas remain inaccessible.
Authorities emphasised that community vigilance and cooperation are key to tackling the problem.
