Ajan Sub-County Chairperson’s Bail Application Hearing Adjourned

Mr. Mwaka Christopher Odokonyero, the Ajan Sub-County Chairperson in Pader district and four others were on remanded to Kitgum Government Prison after their bail application hearing was adjourned by the Kitgum High Court Judge, Philip Wilbrod Mwaka

The other suspects on remand with Mwaka are; Mr. Okeny Francis, Mr. Lam Marino, Mr. Ocaya Francis and Mr. Kitara Lapalbek.

Its reported that on September 20, 2023, the Chairperson ordered for the killing of Mary Akongo, 80, for practicing witch craft. Akongo is said to have been tied during a kangaroo court and forced to apologize; which she did, but later she was killed and her home was burnt.

During the bail application hearing on Tuesday 30^th January, 2024 at Kitgum High Court, the defense lawyer, counsel Patrick Labore failed to present the bail application and other required documents before the court.

He argued that he had already submitted the documents to the High Court in Gulu on the 7^th Nov 2023, but the prosecution team at the Kitgum High Court denied receiving any such documents.

Kitgum High Court Judge, Justice Philip Wilbord Mwaka then asked the defense lawyer to avail court with the bail application documents in the next hearing which has been scheduled for 15^th Feb 2024 at 10am.
