Court issues arrest warrants for Mucwini boda boda chairpersons

The Chief Magistrate of Kitgum, His lordship Nashiero Mwandha Robert Ekirita on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for Mucwini Sub County Boda-boda Chairperson, Mr. Geoffrey Ogik and the Lagot Parish Boda-boda Chairperson, Mr. Gabrel Ojara for their involvement in torturing a suspected motorcycle thief, a one Nelson Omon on the 10th December 2023.

This after Omon, testified in court on Tuesday 16th January, 2024 that Ogik and Ojara were involve in torturing him and taking his personal money before handing it over to the Mucwini Sub-County Gombolola Internal Security Officer – GISO, Mr. Obonyo Simon Okuri.

He also added that the pair was involved in tying him up before beating him for 20minutes under the instruction of the GISO, Mr. Obonyo Simon Okuri

Omon said he was beaten for 20-21 minutes and forced to confess stealing the motorcycle. He adds that he was kept in the army detach in Lagot for three days until the police came for his rescue.

The Chief Magistrate Robert Ekirita ordered that Ogik and Ojara be produced in court to respond to the allegations levelled against them.

In December last year, a video of Omon with tied hands and legs helplessly being flogged by UPDF soldiers and the GISO of Mucwini Sub County as he swings by the ropes from the roof of a building went viral on social media; attracting condemnation from the public, civil society organizations and the government.
