Human Error Blamed for Accidents in Aswa East Region

Much as there are multiple causes of accidents, the majority of them have been attributed to human error on the roads in East Acholi that make up Aswa East Policing Region comprising the districts of Pader, Agago, Kitgum and Lamwo, according to Police.

Superintendent of police – SP Tagana Silman, the Aswa East Regional Traffic Police Officer says the key human errors on the roads are drink driving, overloading, over speeding, talking on phone while driving among others. The other causes, he said are bad weather, nature of roads and the mechanical conditions of the vehicles.

SP Tagana revealed that Boda-Bodas are the biggest causers of road traffic accidents adding that in every 5 accidents, 4 involve Boda-Bodas.

Tagana disclosed that in a bid to scale down the road accidents, they are partnering with other stakeholders on road safety to sensitize road users on how to be safe on the road. He said they are also targeting Boda-Bodas, schools and the general populace through radio and school outreaches.

He however noted that the sensitization campaigns will go concurrently with operations.
