Authorities in Kitgum district have challenged partners to work hard, ensure visibility and cooperate with the communities they serve.

The call was made during the district Water and Sanitation coordination meeting on Wednesday, February 28th 2024 at the RDC’s boardroom.

Speaking during the closure of the meeting, Hajj Walire Marijan, the Kitgum Deputy Resident District Commissioner noted that as much as various partners have immensely contributed to the development of the district, they still need to work in compliance with the memorandum of understanding and ensure the communities and local leaders are involved in the activities for purposes of transparency and accountability.

He lauded National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Ministry of Water and Environment Ministry of Water and Environment, Lutheran World Federation and ADRA for supplementing the government’s efforts in Water and Sanitation Sector.

This meeting was aimed at reviewing the action points of the second quarter sitting which had proposed formulation of by-laws to empower the sub counties in the operation and maintenance of water sources and addressing the inefficiency of Northern Umbrella of Water and Sanitation in the district especially in Namokora where their water supply systems have been non-functional for long.

Hon Emmanuel Lapyem, the Kitgum District Vice Chairperson revealed that they have received positive response from the ministry of water and environment after complaining to them in writing about the non-functionality of water systems managed by Northern Umbrella of water and sanitation.
