Lango parliamentary group has written to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to intervene into theft of animals by suspected Karamojong cattle rustlers in Otuke and Lango at large.

In their letter to the president dated 17th April 2023, Lango parliamentary group general secretary, also Kole north MP, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, Otuke East MP Julius Achon Bua and district woman MP Otuke Susan Abeja said the cattle rustlers have so far stolen over 400 cattle in Olilim, Ogor and Ogwete Sub Counties in Otuke district which has forced some people to flee with their cattle to neighboring Alebtong district.
The legislators expressed fear that insecurity caused by the Karamojong cattle rustlers may instigate hunger in Otuke since people are being forced out of their homes and may not be able to grow crops for food.

They said the education of children in Otuke has also been greatly affected as children are no longer going to school for fear of the cattle rustlers.

Julius Acon expressed fear that the cattle rustlers could also steal some of the cattle that government compensated locals with, recently.

They MPs asked the president to sanction deployment of veteran soldiers to fight off the cattle rustlers.

Meanwhile the presidential advisor on Lango affairs Sam Engola has written to the president to convene a meeting with Lango leaders over insecurity in the region.
