Rwamwanja secondary school participate in National Cleaning Day

Rwamwanja Senior Secondary School in Kibale East county Kamwenge district has embraced the national cleaning day by joining residents of Nkoma-Katalyeba town council, in sweeping exercise to improve sanitation of the town.

The government announced that last Saturday of every month will be a national cleaning day, effective from July 25, aimed at improving the sanitation especially in urban centers and public places. In the directive announced by Robinah Nabbanja, the prime minister, all businesses including public transport must close between 7:00am-10:00am to allow every citizen take part in national cleaning exercise.

On Saturday a team of students and teachers from Rwamwanja SSS, led by the school head teacher Ntwatwa Oscar, joined the business community and Katalyeba town council authorities, to clean the streets and public institutions across the town council.

The areas considered include Katalyeba central market, Rwamwanja Health Center IV, Katalyeba Police station headquarters, and all streets in the town council. according to Mr Ntwatwa, this exercise highlighted the school’s effort to give back to the community, and also aimed at imparting patriotism among students.

Kangonyera Daniel, the town clerk for Katalyeba town council, hailed all institutions that joined hands in the exercise; these include Rwamwanja secondary school, EBO sacco, Opportunity Bank and Business community, adding that this improves the beauty of the town council, and well being of the community members.

Meanwhile, Kiro Anthony, the Officer In-charge (OC) at Katalyeba Police station, said his office summoned two business people for dodging the national exercise, who later pledged to actively participate next time.

Gerald Katale the deputy Mayor Katalyeba town council said the exercise went on well, though it came with unexpected expenses in purchasing cleaning tools and protective gear.  He noted that his council will look into it and plan more for the next exercise, which will lie on August 29, 2026.
