Residents blame local leaders for poor infrastructure in Kyenjojo District

Residents of Kisojo Sub-county in Kyenjojo District have expressed dissatisfaction with the poor condition of the recently rehabilitated Kanyamuningi Road, blaming local leaders for what they described as negligence, particularly in the implementation of sub-county projects.

The road connects the villages of Ishoroma and Sigosire in Kisojo Parish through Ahamuruka to Kanyamuningi. Aggrieved residents, together with boda boda riders, said the road was rehabilitated just one week ago, but its condition is now worse than it was before the works were carried out.

In an interview with reporters on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, residents said the poor workmanship was evident, citing the absence of proper drainage channels, which has allowed rainwater to erode and damage the road within a short period.

The residents have appealed to the district works department to intervene and have called for the contractor to be held accountable for the poor-quality workmanship.

Some local leaders, who requested anonymity, said they were not informed about the construction project and were not involved in monitoring its implementation. They called for greater transparency in government-funded projects.

In a telephone interview with our reporter, Mr Byamukama Sadam, the LC3 Chairperson for Kisojo Sub-county, urged residents to remain calm, adding that he plans to inspect the road to assess the situation and determine the necessary course of action.
