The LC3 Chairperson of Migamba Sub-county, Tureebe James Murefu, has warned government-employed teachers against enrolling their children in private schools while serving in public institutions under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme.

Tureebe questioned the rationale behind government teachers providing educational services in public schools while opting to educate their own children in private institutions, arguing that the practice undermines public confidence in government education.

He made the remarks on 28 October, 2026, during a dedication service for 82 Primary Seven candidates at Migamba Primary School.

Tureebe cautioned that teachers who disregard his position could face administrative action, including possible transfers from the sub-county. However, the proposed directive raises questions regarding its legal enforceability and the applicable public service regulations governing teacher deployment and transfers.

He observed that teachers’ preference for private schools could be interpreted by parents and the wider community as an indication that public schools are failing to deliver quality education.

The LC3 Chairperson also expressed concern over the persistent poor academic performance in some government-aided schools within the sub-county, despite the availability of professionally qualified teachers who earn relatively competitive salaries compared to their counterparts in private institutions.

He challenged teachers to demonstrate professional accountability, improve instructional delivery and restore public confidence in government schools through improved academic outcomes.

Tureebe further encouraged parents with the financial capacity to support their children’s education to explore opportunities that would enable them to complete the different stages of the education cycle without unnecessary interruptions.
