Couple arrested over alleged witchcraft in Kamwenge

About six people were taken by Police to record statements following witchcraft allegations in Kataryeba town council Kamwenge district.

Police in Nkoma-Katalyeba town council Kamwenge district are holding a woman and his husband over alleged witchcraft, following criticism from own family members.

The arrested are Mr George Dabereye and his wife Mrs Ekyensi Erikora Goret, residents of Kinyoza villange, Kinyoza ward Nkoma-Katalyeba town council.

The two were arrested on Thursday October 1, 2026, during a village meeting after several compliments raised from residents accusing them over witchcraft.

In the same meeting, children of the accused explained how their mother Mrs Ekyensi Erikora has been engaging in witchcraft activities, targeting her own husband and other close family friends.

This forced the police led by the OC for Nkoma-Katalyeba police Station, Anthony Kilo, to order arrest of the two for further investigations. He asked residents to always report such incidents before affecting the entire village.
