The Kibale East Students Association has launched a campaign to provide free sanitary pads to girls in secondary schools, starting with Rwamwanja Secondary School.

The campaign is aimed at supporting girls to remain in school and reducing school dropouts linked to challenges associated with menstrual hygiene.

Speaking during the launch, the association president, Mr. Kasasira Kenneth, said the initiative is intended to help girls attend school regularly and continue with their education.

Kasasira commended the association’s patron, Hon Frank Tumwebaze who is the Member of Parliament for Kibale East, for supporting the initiative. He added that the campaign will be extended to all secondary schools in Kibale East.

Mr. Modern Turyamusiima, a teacher at Rwamwanja Secondary School and a member of the association, said the provision of sanitary pads will help improve students’ participation and concentration in academics.

According to Kasasira, girls in candidates are given priority due to their urgent need to concentrate, ahead of the final examinations in early October. He noted that several other schools will be considered; these include Ntenungi sec. school, Bwizi sec. school, Blessed Jewels sec. school, Biguli sec. school, St Peters Clever sec. school, among others.

The head teacher of Rwamwanja Secondary School, Mr. Ntwatwa Oscar, commended the initiative, saying the school has benefited greatly from the support.
