A profound sense of shock and grief has gripped residents of Nyanga Zone in Kyegegwa Town Council following a brutal overnight attack that left three people dead, including a student.
The victims have been identified as Mwesige Robert, Costa Nakazibwe 39, and Asiime Ronald, an S4 student at Kibuye Secondary School. Unknown assailants are reported to have raided their home under the cover of darkness, cutting them down in cold blood.
The horror unfolded in the early hours of Monday 28 September, 2026, when a neighbor, Kababyaasi Shakira, grew deeply concerned upon hearing a baby crying incessantly from inside the victims’ house. After receiving no response to her repeated calls, Shakira pushed the door open to check on the family. Inside, she was met with a gruesome scene: one victim lay motionless in a pool of blood on the floor.
She rushed in and managed to pull the distressed infant safely from beneath a bed. When she removed a bloodstained sheet covering the main bed, she discovered Costa Nakazibwe and the others lifeless and heavily wounded.
“I ran out and I made an alarm and the community gathered, however, we couldn’t identify anyone who has done such an act,” Shakira recounted in an interview with reporters.
The Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) was among the first to arrive at around 8:30am, immediately cordoning off the area to preserve forensic evidence ahead of formal police investigations.
LCV Chairperson Mr. Birungi Norman was among the first to arrive at the scene to assess the tragedy and console the devastated residents. Addressing the gathering crowd, Mr. Norman urged community members to remain calm and pledge their full cooperation with security forces to track down the perpetrators.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the district, compounding local anxieties regarding violent crime and home invasions. As investigations into the motive behind the killings and the identities of the assailants are currently underway, bodies of the deceased were taken to Kyegegwa general hospital for postmortem.
