500million water supply system commissioned in Kamwenge district

Water for people in partnership with Kamwenge district local government and the ministry of water and environment have commissioned a 505m shillings Bunoga water supply system to supply water in Three villages with a population over 2300 from 465 households.

The project which was completed in a period of Four months since its launch in February 2026, by Sprinktech Water and Energy Solutions Provider, will cover the villages of Bunoga A, Bunoga B and Nyaburama all in Kinoni parish Busiriba sub county Kamwenge district.

Ahabwe Jonah Noreen the program engineer in Water for People, who represented the country director Brenda Achiro at the commissioning on Friday 21 August 2026, said that their main objective is to extend piped water to every household before end of their inception in Kamwenge district.

A reservoir tank was raised in Bunoga cell to supply water to the rest for the villages.

Katusiime Harriet the Chief Administrative Officer Kamwenge thanked the Bishop of East Rwenzori Diocese, Rt Rev George Tuyasingura, for offering a free land to support the project, appealing to residents to use this clean water to improve on their sanitation.

Rehema Birungi, from the ministry of water and environment, said that the project fulfills the government’s sustainable development goal of extending clean water to all communities.

Meanwhile, the Deputy RDC for Kamwenge, Namara Loy Batuuze, officiated the function and thanked the NRM government and President Museveni for prioritizing service delivery, security and economic stability of citizens.

Kamwenge district LCV Chairperson Joseph Karungi said that the plans to extend water to the remaining villages are under way by the district authorities.

The district councilor Busiriba sub county, Julius Byaruhanga and Twikirize Scovia the district vice chairperson, said this project will help to reduce the burden of water borne diseases and asked district leaders to also consider other water stressed villages in the sub county, during the next hase.
