A total of 7,096 candidates have been registered to sit the 2026 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Kyegegwa District, with more girls registered than boys.

This was revealed by Mr Kiiza Goden, the district inspector of schools (DIS) for Kyegegwa, who said 3,799 girls and 3,297 boys had registered. A total of 3,425 candidates were registered in government-aided schools, while 3,671 were registered in private examination centres.

Mr Kiiza was speaking on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, during the orientation and issuance of appointment letters to invigilators, chief invigilators and other officials selected to assist the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in overseeing the PLE. The event was held at Mpala Primary School in Mpala Town Council.

According to him, candidate registration had increased this academic year compared with 6,146 candidates registered for the PLE in 2025. He said the district has 95 PLE centres, of which 85 were selected to host this year’s examinations.

The DIS noted that UNEB had approved three additional PLE examination centres in the district this year: Mpala Parents Primary School in Kyaka South Constituency, Amon Mukarazi Memorial Primary School in Kyaka Central Constituency, and Businge Primary School in Kyaka North Constituency.

Mr Kiiza said the district was working hard to combat examination malpractice, which had led to the cancellation of results at several centres in previous years. He also urged parents to support their children and ensure they were well prepared throughout the examination period.
