The State Minister for Fisheries, Hon. Robert Migadde Ndugwa, has officially launched Silver Hutch Uganda Limited in Nkanja Sub-county, Kyegegwa District.
The company, which began operations in March 2024, aims to promote fish farming by providing farmers with quality fish fingerlings, fish farming services and other agricultural support, while creating employment opportunities for refugees and host communities in rural areas.
Speaking shortly after the launch on 13 October 2026, Hon. Migadde urged farmers to embrace fish farming, saying it could generate income within a relatively short period when properly managed.

The minister pledged government support for Silver Hutch Uganda Limited, provided the company adheres to the required fish farming standards and procedures to ensure that farmers have access to quality fish fingerlings.
Meanwhile, Kyegegwa District Fisheries Officer Lucas Abesiga says fish farming remains largely at subsistence level in the district, with only a few farmers engaged in commercial production.
He attributes this to several challenges, including a shortage of skilled labour, limited access to quality fish feeds and an unreliable water supply.
Abesiga said Kyegegwa currently has 306 registered fish farmers. In 2025, the district produced 12.64 tonnes of fish, a figure he described as low given that the district has 494 fish ponds.
The Chief Executive Officer of Silver Hutch Uganda Limited, Tumuhimbise Silver, has appealed to the government to support the company with land, a fish-feed pellet processing machine and other essential resources to boost fish production.
Meanwhile, a group of youths from Ijugangoma East Village in Nkanja Sub-county, Kyegegwa District, surprised State Minister for Fisheries Hon. Robert Migadde Ndugwa on 13 October 2026 by asking him to provide their group with footballs and jerseys.
The incident occurred during the official launch of Silver Hutch Uganda Limited, a fish farming project owned by Tumuhimbise Silver, in Nkanja Sub-county.
More than 15 youths requested the microphone from the master of ceremonies to present their concerns publicly to the minister. However, instead of raising issues relating to their poultry project, the youths, who identified themselves as members of the Ijugangoma East Women Poultry Keeping Group, focused their appeal on obtaining footballs and jerseys.
In response, Hon. Migadde cautioned the youths against using the wrong platform to present their concerns.
The minister urged the youths to establish income-generating activities to improve their livelihoods and contribute to community development.
Hon. Migadde further challenged the youths to stop devoting all their energy to football at the expense of engaging in productive and economically beneficial activities.
