At least 15 families in Ngangi Parish, Rwentuha Sub-county, Kyegegwa District, have been left homeless after a storm destroyed their homes on Friday afternoon.

The storm also destroyed crops and killed several domestic animals and birds, leaving affected residents worried about their livelihoods and the possibility of food shortages.

On Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, Rwentuha Sub-county NRM chairperson and acting LC3 chairperson, Tugume Alex, accompanied by the Sub-County Women Council chairperson, Winnie Balinda, inspected the worst-hit villages, including Rusorora, Akashojwa, Ntungamo and Mukara.

During the inspection, affected residents expressed concern over the loss of their homes, saying they had nowhere to shelter. They also warned that food shortages could arise because the storm had destroyed their crops.

The residents appealed to the government to provide emergency relief, including shelter, food and other essential supplies, to help them cope with the disaster.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the inspection, Tugume and Balinda attributed the disaster to deforestation and urged residents to plant trees around their homes and gardens as part of efforts to protect the environment.

They encouraged the community to embrace tree planting and other environmental conservation practices to help mitigate the effects of severe weather.

By press time, no government officials from either the sub-county or district had visited the affected area to assess the extent of the damage.

For clarity, Tugume Alex is serving as acting LC3 chairperson of Rwentuha Sub-county following the death of Vincent Kahoone in May 2026, before Kahoone had taken his oath of office.
