Ajuri traditional schools receive iron sheets

At least six schools in Ajuri county, Alebtong district have received iron sheets from the office of the prime minister. The schools include Amugo Agro technical institute, Akii-bua Comprehensive senior secondary school, St Theresa Alanyi Girl’s SS, Amugo SS and Apami Primary school.

The 300 iron sheets were lobbied by Ajuri County Member of parliament Denis Hamson Obua with each school receiving 50 pieces of iron sheets. Obua who doubles as the Government Chief Whip handed over the iron sheets to the respective school authorities in a brief function held at his home village of Amindit on Saturday.

“I have previously received numerous request for iron sheets from individual schools and I realized there was great need for this support and as your MP, I am like a hunting dog baying for an animal, the government chief whip said in his native luo language’’

He cited Apami primary school where he went for his primary education which lacks structures and teachers including the head teacher commute from their villages due to lack of staff houses.

Obua however appealed to the school heads to reach out to parents and also solicit their support towards improving the status of the structures in their schools and said this could be achieved during Parents-Teachers Association meetings which he also pledged to attend some.

The Government Chief Whip further warned those who received the iron sheets to avoid diverting it for other purposes other than that which is meant for adding that actions would be taken on those who might attempt to steal it.

Obua also revealed that his intervention is targeting all sectors in his constituency and cited an ambulance he recently acquired to enhance the referral of patients. He also recently lobbied for medical beds for all the health centers in Ajuri.

Peter Ocen, the head teacher of Omoro SS, one of the traditional schools in Alebtong commended GCW Obua for his intervention and said since 1984 when the school started, it has been grappling with the challenge of in adequate structures and says the iron sheets has come in handy.

Caleb James Ogwang, the head teacher of Amugo SS was equally thankful to Denis Obua for his support towards education in the constituency saying it is one of the strongest pillar for socio-economic transformation.
