Aswa police still investigating fire outbreak at PP High school in Gulu

A private headed secondary school boy’s dormitory was reportedly torched by unknown gang men leaving over 320 students counting loses after their property got reduced to ashes. These included beddings, clothes, books, boxes amongst other items.

 The school that has been affected by the fire outbreak was identified as PP Newton High school is located along Gulu -Kitgum highway after Unyama bridge in Gulu city.

The fire could have been contained but Qfm understands that the school did not have fire extinguishers 

At least 5 students collapsed due to shock and suffocation and were rushed to Flama health center in Gulu city for immediate treatment.

 Many parents reportedly stormed the school upon hearing a breaking News on local FM stations and some confronted the school authorities as they demanded to know the cause of the fire outbreak.

 The territorial police of Gulu Rural CPS in Gulu district issued a statement saying they are investigating a case of fire outbreak vide CRB:70/2023 reported by Evelyn aged 38-year and who happens to be the area parish chief.

 ‘’Preliminary information obtained from the police indicate that on 3/3/2023 at around 0900hrs, a teacher identified as Ocan Raymond saw a smoke from the boy’s dormitory prompting him and some students to rush there in an attempt to rescue the property from the burning dormitory” police said

However, the immediate police fire emergency and rescue service were notified and they rushed to the scene of crime, managed to control and put the fire off from escalating to another building, it added

 According to public relation officer [PRO] of Aswa river region ASP David Ongom Mudong, the cause of fire is yet to be confirmed adding that no suspects have yet been arrested in connection to the above incident, however relevant statements was recorded from the servals witnesses to help in further investigations, the level of damages yet to be complied as more inquired continues.

 The head teacher of the school Ms. Lakot Monica Anywar meanwhile revealed that the school has been in land row with a family that is close to the school.

 PP Newton High secondary school has a total of over 450 students with totals of 320 boys and 130 girls staying in the school, they lost a two block dormitories which were contracted and completed in Feb/2023 this year by the school.
