The High Court in Lira has pushed to April 12th 2023   hearing of a case filed by Lira City West Division Speaker Daniel Okello who is challenging his Censure from office.

In October 2022, Samuel Akaa Okello, a Councilor representing Teso C Ward petitioned the office of the Mayor and Council seeking to Censure Daniel Okello accusing him of incompetence and abuse of Office.

Subsequently, the Town Clerk Jimmy Angole called for the Council Meeting which he presided over and the Councilors petitioned Local Government Minister and electoral Commission on the same.

High Court Judge Dancan Gaswaga then issued a temporary Court injunction to stay the censure of the speaker by the Mayor Mike Ogwal Achonga and Councilors until the Main application is heard.

On Monday 6th March 2023, Daniel Okello through his lawyer Raymond Ongom, asked Court to allow him amend his case basing on the Minister’s advice that before seeking for Court intervention, Mediation must take place first.

Salamu Ngobi, the Lira High Court Deputy Registrar adjourned the hearing of the case to April 12th 2023. Joel Kakona of Kakona and Kwotek Company who is representing Lira City West Division said they are not worried of the pending case in Court.

On his side, Raymond Ongom, a lawyer for Daniel Okello, expressed concern that much as Court injunction was issued against Lira City West Division, the councilors are not allowing the speaker to conduct his mandated functions.
