Districts service commissions across Lango sub region have been criticized for literally selling jobs as well s exhibiting nepotism during recruitment processes. A district service commission is the body mandated to source for and recruit human resources in a given district.

Addressing the media on Monday, Rev. James Awany, the overall chairperson of heads of district service commissions in Lango says he has received several reports incriminating members of the various district service commissions who allegedly ask for bribes from job seekers before they are recruited.

Lango comprises of 9 districts of Alebtong, Otuke, Amolatar, Oyam, Lira, Apac, Kole, Dokolo and Kwania. It also has Lira city and Apac Municipality.

Awany painfully disclosed to the media that in some incidences, female candidates are asked to offer sex in exchange for job placements, a vice he said ought to be investigated and the perpetrators punished.

Rev. Awany who is also the chairperson of Lira district service commission also appealed to journalists in the various media houses to take keen interest on this subject, cause investigations and publish such stories to cause shame to members of the district service commissions who lack integrity and act with impunity while recruiting workers.

In a related development, the man of God observed that corruption is not only being practiced by the district service commissions but also in other sectors such as health and education. He cited an example where government officials report late to office yet they receive full salaries at the end of the month saying this is another form of corruption and he appealed to public servants to have a positive mindset and attitude towards their job.

According to Awany, Lira district has a budget of shillings 4bn to cater for the wage bill of additional workers but was quick to add that they have not been able to advertise job vacancies and circuit new workers because of delays by the finance ministry.
