Otuke district leaders meet army over Karamojong cattle rustlers

Otuke district LCV chairman Francis Abola has assured the community that his administration is doing all it takes to cushion them from any attack from the Karamojong cattle keepers.

Every year, Otuke and Alebtong districts in East of Lango sub-region experience the influx of the Karamojong cattle keepers who are often accused of stealing cattle and other animals from the local community.

But speaking to Qfm news desk on Tuesday, bola disclosed he and the Resident district commissioner of Otuke Gillian Akullo have held closed door meetings with the army leadership at Achol-pii Army Barracks to devise strategies of protecting his people in case of any attempt by the Karamojong t cross to Otuke

He described the meeting that was equally attended by the 5th Division commander as a success. He also disclosed that they intend to register names of those who lost their animals to the Karamojong in the recent past so that they get compensated by government.

On her part, Gillian Akullo, the district RDC said he agreed with the division commander that soldiers should be deployed at the borders of Otuke and Abim to ensure peace and to prevent the Karamojong from infiltrating the district.

Akullo appealed to the community of Ogwete, Olilim and Ogor sub counties which have always faced disturbance from the Karamojong to be calm because their security will soon be beefed up.

The Karamojong usually cross over to Lango sub region during dry spells in such for greener pastures and water for the animals.
