A total of 12 youths from Tenam subcounty in Pader district have received 12 cattle from the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, valued at 14 million Ugandan shillings.

The youth, selected from Aringa and Lakoga parishes, recently completed a three-month training programme in business entrepreneurship and skills. They have since formed a group named Karcel Wacung Youth Group to advance their business ventures.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Thursday, August 22, 2024, Mr. Filbert Odong, one of the beneficiaries, praised the initiative, stating, “This is a life-changing opportunity. I never imagined I would receive such support. I urge the organisation to continue supporting other groups, such as women.”

The event was attended by prominent local leaders, including the LC3 Chairperson of Tenam subcounty, Belsmos Omara and Phillips Adonga, Councilor 5 representing Tenam in Pader district. Hon. Adonga urged the beneficiaries to take full ownership of their cattle and ensure they multiply to benefit the entire community.

Mr. Charles Ongom, representing the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, emphasised the importance of such programmes in promoting self-reliance and long-term development in rural areas.

Adonga also called upon other development partners to continue supporting initiatives that promote community growth and development in Pader district.

The youth initiative is expected to boost economic activities in the region, providing a sustainable source of income for the group members and their families.
