MP Santa Okot empowers women in Pader with GROW project

A quiet revolution is underway as over 900 women in Pader prepare to embrace new opportunities through the GROW Project, a government initiative aimed at empowering female entrepreneurs.

On September 21, 2024, these women gathered in Atanga town council for a sensitisation meeting organised by Aruu North MP, Hon. Santa Okot. This event marked a pivotal moment for many, signaling the start of a transformative journey.

Hon. Okot, a passionate advocate for women’s rights, welcomed participants from Acholibur, Angagura, Laguti, and Ajan. She emphasised the power women hold and how the GROW Project could unlock it. The initiative promises financial support through loans, equipping women to expand their businesses and create jobs in their communities.

“The GROW Project is a golden opportunity for women to uplift their businesses and enhance their livelihoods. It is crucial that you seize it,” Hon. Okot stated passionately.

Joined by Pader District Woman MP, Hon. Aciro Paska Menya, they highlighted the importance of financial empowerment. “We must ensure its success by responsibly using the loans provided,” Hon. Aciro urged.

However, concerns about loan repayment terms were raised, particularly regarding national IDs and group applications. Mr. Ocen Jacob, a Centenary Bank loan officer, reassured them, “Our goal is to ensure everyone benefits from the program without undue stress.”

For many women, taking a loan is a leap of faith. As Hon. Aciro reminded them, making responsible financial decisions is crucial. “We are trusting you with these loans, so it’s vital to use them wisely and repay on time.”

The GROW Project embodies a promise of independence and a brighter future, and the women of Pader are ready to nurture this opportunity into something powerful.
