The second edition of the Miss Pader Beauty Pageant, held on December 22, 2024, at Icon A1 Lounge, focused on empowering young women in politics and promoting unity between Pader and Agago districts. The event, themed “Empowering Young Women in Politics,” highlighted the growing role of women in leadership and aimed to bridge regional divides.

“Empowering women, especially in politics, is essential for the future development of our country,” said Akol Anthony, Chairperson of the Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) and the Guest of Honor. “This pageant is not just about beauty but about recognising the intelligence, talent, and leadership capabilities of young women.” Akol also called for unity among Acholi leaders, stressing that collaborative efforts are key to driving better development in the region.

Mr. Ricky Richard Anywar, Member of Parliament for Agago West County, expressed his support for future initiatives fostering collaboration between Pader and Agago. “Unity between our communities will ensure we all grow together,” he said, emphasising the importance of inspiring young people, particularly women, to pursue leadership roles.

The pageant symbolised regional cooperation between the two districts, which often face challenges related to disparity. Local leaders, including Pader District Woman MP Paska Menya and Lunyiri/Awere District Councilor Lalam Esther, highlighted the need for unity and empowerment.

“This event shows how crucial it is to support one another, regardless of district boundaries,” said Lalam. “By empowering young women, we are not only building their futures but the future of our region.”

The competition was intense, with six contestants vying for the Miss Pader crown. They were judged on creativity, confidence, presentation, intelligence, body language, and talent. Miss Miriam Nekos Akidi emerged as the winner, while Bridget Atoo from Pukor subcounty and Patience Oliver Aciro secured the first and second runner-up spots.

“The contestants demonstrated intelligence and poise, qualities that will help them excel in political and leadership roles,” said Kasline Lakareber Gladys, CEO and pageant organiser.

Looking ahead, Lakareber envisioned the Miss Pader pageant as a platform to elevate Pader District on the national stage. “This event is an avenue for community development, where young women advocate for sustainability and social issues,” she added.

As Miss Pader grows, it continues to promote female leadership, political engagement, and regional cooperation across Uganda.
