Apac Hospital’s Anesthetist in Police detention over alleged extortion

The territorial police in Apac District has in custody one Sabina Demarks Acen an Anesthetist attached to Apac main Hospital for charging a patient 200,000 shillings for a surgical operation.

Acen was arrested yesterday 18th April 2023 on orders of the RDC Apac George Abudul after a tip off from the caretaker of the patient Mr. Akona Haron.

Its alleged that Acen frequently necessitated a ransom of money amounting to 200,000 shillings from the parent of a child who was suffering from Hernia and was due for an operation saying the money is mandatory and was on the Surgeon’s demand.

According to Mr Akona Haron, the father of the child, they were on several occasion sent away to look for the said sum of money which prompted them to seek aid from the Office of the RDC and the line District officials.

The RDC Apac Mr. George Abudul upon comprehending the narrative swung into action by quickly mobilizing the said amount of money and sending a group of detectives who later picked Acen read handed while receiving the money.

Speaking to Radio Apac, Mr Abudul said his office has on several occasions warned health workers against extorting money from patients but since his continuous lamentations appear to have been hitting deaf hears, his actions will now take effect in order to weed out the corrupt health workers especially in government facilities.

Abudul said his office now has a list of uncertain health workers especially surgeons who are said to have been extorting money from patients in the name of offering them successful operations hinting that the said health workers shall be paraded soon to the District’s reward and sanction committee for disciplinary actions.

Mr. Sam Opira the Apac District secretary for Education and Health said corrupt health workers like Acen will always face backfires of their actions urging the public to always be very vigilant in spotting such errant workers and report them as fast as they can promising to clean up corruption allegations within Apac main hospital with no fear or favor.

Acen is still under police detention at Apac CPS as she awaits the next cause of action.
