Shock as Lira University Lecturer Alex Oryang Chono collapses to death

Lango has been plunged into mourning following the sudden demise of Mr. Alex Oryang Chono, the former lecturer at Lira University.

Oryang Chono, the lecturer at the department of Public Administration and Management passed away on Tuesday evening.

Patrick Opio, Lira University Senior Communication Officer confirmed Oryang’s sudden death.

Opio said the deceased collapsed and died shortly on Tuesday on his way towards the door of his car from Lira Main Market where he had branched to purchase food while in Lira City.

Oryang Chono served as the LCV male councilor representing Chegere Sub County in the Apac District Local Government from 2011 to 2016 under Uganda people congress party tickrt where he also worked as the Chairperson Finance, Planning and Administration.

Chono, a vibrant and a brave politician later stood for Apac District LCV Chairperson seat but lost to his ally Bob Okae in the UPC’s primaries before he retired from the active politics and joined the teaching profession.

Yine Felix Ambrosis, the former Speaker of Apac District Local Government described Chono’s death as shocking. Yine said the deceased was an academia, social, cooperate, approachable and a down to earth person whose demise will be missed forever.

Christ Ongom, the UPC Regional Vice Chairperson in-charge Lango described the late Oryang Chono as an ideologue, a mentor and a principal UPC ideological facilitator in Lango whose demise is not only a big loss to the people of Lango but also a set back to the UPC fraternity in Lango.
