Apac: Two parish chiefs detained over alleged sabotage of PDM program

Two parish chiefs from Akokoro subcounty Apac District are in police custody for allegedly incapacitating and preaching negatively about the Parish Development Model program.

The arrest was effected on orders from the RDC Mr. George Abudul during an engagement meeting yesterday at Scouts Hall Apac with all the parish chiefs in the district.

According to Mr. Abudul, the two detained parish chiefs are Mr. Odur Maxwell attached to Awila parish and Mr. Ocepa Geoffrey for Ayeolyec parish all in Akokoro subcounty Apac district.

Mr. Abudul said the accused are alleged to have failed to present statistics of beneficiaries of the program from their respective parishes and also continuously asking their other counterparts and the community to help them de-campaign the PDM initiative a report he says his office has been receiving for quite some time.

Abudul said, residents of Akokoro and Apoi subcounties failed to register for the PDM program, a move he said is under investigation to ascertain circumstances that could have caused it.

He said once the investigations are done, the two parish chiefs will be called before the district reward and sanction committee and asked to resign incase they are not satisfied with their line descriptions.

The two officials were still in custody at Apac central Police station by press time.

On a special sitting with members of parliament recently, president Museveni pledged no mercy for those who will sabotage the PDM program.

The Parish Development Model was launched in 2021 as the last mile strategy for service delivery by the Government of Uganda for improving the incomes and welfare of Ugandans at the household level.

It is an extension of the whole-of-government approach to development envisaged under NDP III, with the Parish as the lowest administrative and operational hub for delivering services closer to the people and hence fostering local economic development.

Apac district will officially launch its PDM program on 30^th June 2023 according to the RDC George Abudul.
