The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance in charge of ICT, Hon. Joyce Nabosa Sebugwawo, who is also the Patron and Co-Founder of Solar M7, described the launch of the Solar M7 brand and roll-out campaign as a life-changing initiative.
“Today is a very special day. I stand before you filled with hope, purpose, and a renewed sense of duty as we officially launch Solar M7 — a life-changing product and a movement dedicated to bringing light, power, and opportunity to every corner of Uganda and Africa,” she said.
The Minister also stated that for far too long, many Ugandans—especially women, children, and the elderly in remote villages—have lived in darkness. She emphasised that this was not by choice, but because they simply cannot afford the electricity that others take for granted.
“Even in areas where power lines pass overhead, many homes remain dark every night. This is not just a power problem; it is a poverty problem, a development challenge, and a barrier to participating in the digital economy of our time. Solar M7 is our answer,” she said.
Hon. Nabbosa went on to explain that the initiative was founded by Innocent Mr Kawooya, Henry Lutwama, and herself, with the goal of serving last-mile households—those left behind and most in need of energy.
“My journey with this cause began when I sought to provide computers to rural schools. Along the way, I discovered that many of these school-going children came from homes that lacked even basic access to electricity. Today, we are proud to unveil Solar M7—a powerful, mobile, and affordable solar home kit that can be used by anyone, anywhere,” she said.
“This is not just a gadget—it is the beginning of a movement. A movement that will light homes, charge phones, enable schoolwork, and empower businesses, even in the most remote locations.
What makes Solar M7 unique? It has seven powerful characteristics—the details of which will be revealed in our campaign roll-out. With Solar M7, we are not only delivering energy—we are delivering hope, dignity, opportunity, and inclusion.
We call upon all development partners, donors, and governments to join us. Let us work together to ensure that no home is left in the dark, no child misses the chance to study due to lack of light, and no woman is forced to give birth in total darkness.
Thank you all for standing with us on this journey. May the light of Solar M7 shine across Africa,” she concluded.
